Termas Puyehue Wellness & SPA Resort, Chile

Termas Puyehue Wellness & SPA Resort is located in the Los Lagos region / south of Chile at the foothills of the Andes. The main attraction of the complex is the thermal water outflowing from numerous springs that is collected centrally and fed into several pools.

By now, three decentralized oil or LPG boiler units have been serving for heat and sanitary hot water production exclusively. Now the above mentioned thermal water is used in the base load supply, mainly for the installed floor heating system. For that, pre-insulated plastic pipelines have been buried up to the heat generators, heat exchanger stations have been installed and numerous thermal insulation measures have been implemented with up-to-date control equipment completing the system.

The prioritisation of the use of the limited thermal water resources for balneological and heating purposes has been a key aspect. Modern and innovative control equipment ensures that the quantity of water exploited for heating  does not exceed the amount required for the safe balneological operation according to quality standards.

Finally, the project will save annually approx. 1,200 MWh (calorific value) of fossil fuels or 48 % of the present demand.
