Lithuanian Geothermal Assosciation

On June 03, 2022 Prof. Dr. A. Razbadauskas, rector of Klaipeda University, was elected as the new president of the Lithuanian Geothermal Assosciation (LGA). On the same day, the managing director of Geothermie Neubrandenburg GmbH (GTN), Dr. Peter Seibt, gave a lecture on the resource potential and technical solutions for geothermal heat recovery in Lithuania and Latvia.

In the late 1990s, GTN carried out extensive research in close cooperation with the Lithuanian Geological Institute that analyzed Lithuania’s and Latvia’s geothermal resource potential based on exploration results of the local hydrocarbon industry and GTN now has a comprehensive geological database for Lithuania and Latvia. Thanks to general conditions comparable to geothermal projects in northern Germany, very promising perspectives are opening up for geothermal energy use in the Baltic states.

Almost all mayor cities in those countries nowadays have modernized district heating grids making it obvious that now is the right time to take the next steps in project development. We wish the newly elected president every success in his important position.
